What this work actually involves
Range and cooktop work is mostly gas work with a cabinet problem attached. Every LP appliance connection has to be made by a certified technician and pressure tested afterward, and the cutout in a coach galley almost never matches the new appliance exactly. Manufacturers change dimensions between model years, so a replacement cooktop usually means modifying the countertop opening, refitting trim, and often relocating the gas stub. The appliance cost is frequently the smaller half of the job.
The common repairs are simpler than owners expect. Burners with a lazy yellow flame are usually partially blocked orifices or spiders in the venturi tubes, which is a genuine problem in Southern California where mud daubers colonize anything that sits for a season. Ovens that light and go out are almost always a failing thermocouple or a dirty flame sensor, not a bad valve. And an oven that runs 75 degrees off is a thermostat calibration issue, not a reason to replace an otherwise sound range.
Microwaves and convection units are electrical rather than gas, and the failure mode that matters is the mounting. A microwave mounted to a cabinet face with the original fasteners after a remodel can tear out on a rough freeway, and a convection unit draws enough current that it needs a properly sized circuit rather than sharing a galley outlet. We mount into framing, check the circuit capacity, and verify the vent path on over-range units so the hood actually discharges outside instead of into a cabinet.

On repair calls we check orifices, venturi tubes, thermocouples, and thermostat calibration first. Many ranges written off as failed are a cleaning and a $40 part.

How much does an RV cooktop or range replacement cost?

Why are my burners burning yellow instead of blue?
Usually a partially blocked orifice or a spider web in the venturi tube restricting air mixing. Mud daubers and spiders colonize RV appliances that sit through a Southern California season, and the galley range is a favorite. It can also indicate low delivered LP pressure, which we measure at the appliance before cleaning anything.
My oven lights and then goes out. What is failing?
Nearly always the thermocouple or flame sensing device. It has to stay hot enough to hold the safety valve open, and as it ages it loses output and the valve closes. It is an inexpensive part. Replacing the whole range for that symptom is one of the more common unnecessary expenses we see owners talked into.
Who makes the gas connections?
Certified technicians only, and every gas connection is followed by a documented system pressure test recorded on the invoice. All of it is performed in the shop at our Yorba Linda facility. We do not make LP connections outside the building and we do not let general technicians work on gas.
Can I switch from propane to induction cooking?
Yes, and it is increasingly popular on lithium equipped builds. The requirement is electrical capacity. A single induction burner needs roughly 1,500 to 1,800 watts, which means a real inverter and a bank that can support it. We calculate the load against your system honestly before recommending it, since it is a poor fit on a small bank.
