Why Southern California Brings Specialty Work to Yorba Linda

The short answer

People drive past a lot of body shops to get here for one reason: the work these vehicles need is not automotive body work. Laminated panel, fiberglass layup, riveted shell, slide geometry, and documented insurance supplements are separate skill sets, and they are what this shop is built around.

01

The Actual Difference Is Construction

A collision shop that has spent twenty years on unibody cars is good at something genuinely difficult. It is simply a different difficult thing. A car is stamped steel and aluminum with defined crush zones, published measurement specifications, and a repair procedure written by a manufacturer with an engineering department. A motorhome is a chassis carrying a house, where the house is a bonded sandwich panel with a laminated skin and a molded cap, and the manufacturer procedure may amount to a parts diagram.

That difference changes everything downstream. Damage assessment is by tap test and moisture meter rather than by measuring points. Repair is by layup schedule and adhesive selection rather than by panel replacement. Verification is by water test rather than by alignment rack. None of that is harder than automotive work in some abstract sense. It is just not the same trade, and there is no way to fake it on a vehicle that will be in the sun for the next fifteen years.

02

We Open It Before We Price It

The single most common failure on these claims is a scope written from the outside. It happens because it is cheap and fast and because on most vehicles it is close enough. On laminated construction it is not close enough. The separated area behind a visible bubble routinely measures three to five times what the owner pointed at, and a two foot crack in a cap regularly sits above a bent backing structure that nobody can see.

So we push for teardown authorization, and on retail work we tell you plainly that the estimate before disassembly is a range rather than a number. That conversation is less comfortable than a confident figure. It is also the reason our jobs do not generate a second round of supplements after the paint is on, and the reason an owner is not funding the difference out of pocket in month four.

03

We Write Claims the Way Carriers Can Act On

A supplement that is a list of complaints gets reviewed slowly and questioned heavily. A supplement that is a photographed, itemized list of components with condition findings, moisture readings, measurements, and part numbers gets approved. The difference is not persuasion, it is format. Adjusters are working a queue with documentation requirements, and giving them exactly what those requirements ask for is the fastest way through.

We work direct with Progressive, GEICO, State Farm, AAA SoCal, AAA Enterprises, Mercury, Allstate, American Family, Wawanesa, National General, CSAA, Foremost, Liberty Mutual, Tesla, Cincinnati, and AGWS, among others. We handle the technical back and forth so you are not translating between two trades. Insurance-billed jobs may be billed at carrier-negotiated rates that differ from posted retail rates, and we tell you which applies before work begins.

04

All Years, All Makes, All Classes

Class A diesel pushers, Class A gas coaches, Class B and Class C, Super C, fifth wheels, toy haulers, travel trailers, teardrops, truck campers, pop-ups, park models, cargo and utility trailers, Sprinter and Transit and ProMaster builds, box trucks, flatbeds, bus conversions, and vintage coaches. There is currently a 1959 Flxible VL-100 in the shop next to current-year Sprinters and Rivians.

That range is not a marketing claim, it is a working requirement. A shop that only sees late-model units loses the fabrication skills, and a shop that only sees vintage loses the electronic and ADAS side. Doing both means the person forming a discontinued aluminum panel and the person running a static camera calibration are in the same building, which matters more than it sounds like it should when a restoration turns out to need a modern chassis component.

05

Structural Work Is Not Subcontracted

All welding and structural correction is performed here by certified technicians. Frame sectioning, cage correction, outrigger and crossmember work, and fabrication on both steel and aluminum are done in shop rather than sent out. Aluminum and steel are welded to different procedures and are not treated as interchangeable, because aluminum structure welded with a steel mindset cracks at the heat affected zone, usually within a year.

Keeping it in house matters for scheduling and it matters more for accountability. When structural work goes out to a third party, the shop that owns the job cannot verify the correction and cannot document it for the claim file. Here the measurement before, the correction, and the re-measurement after all happen under one roof and go into the same photographic record.

06

What We Will Tell You That Others Might Not

We will tell you when a repair is not worth doing. If a coach has a wet subfloor, a failing membrane, and delamination across two panels, and the value of the unit is below the sum of those repairs, that is the conversation to have on day one rather than in month three. Some owners proceed anyway because the unit means something to them, which is a completely reasonable decision. It should just be made with the number in front of you.

We will also tell you when the cheaper option is the right one. Not every bubble needs a wall opened, not every roof needs a new membrane, and not every cap needs replacing. Injection on a sound substrate, a proper reseal on an adhered membrane, and a laid-up repair on a contained crack are all correct answers in the right circumstances, and we will say so even though the invoice is smaller.

07

One Location, and Why That Is the Point

All work is performed at our Yorba Linda facility. We do not offer mobile, field, or fleet route service. Structural repair needs measurement equipment, controlled spray and cure conditions, lifting capability, and the ability to leave a vehicle apart for weeks without it being rained on. None of that travels. A repair performed in a storage lot is a repair that will be performed again.

The cost of that choice is that you have to bring the vehicle here, and customers do, from Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura counties. If you are coming from a distance, sort the logistics before disassembly begins. A coach that is apart cannot be moved, and a plan made in advance is much cheaper than a plan made in week three.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why not just use the body shop my insurance recommended?

You can, and some network shops are excellent. The question to ask is what that shop does about a separated laminate. If the answer involves opening the wall, replacing the substrate, and correcting the moisture source, they do this work. If the answer is filler and paint, the repair will look right at delivery and fail in a season. California law protects your right to choose the facility.

What makes RV body work different from car body work?

Materials and construction. A car is stamped metal with published measurement points and a manufacturer repair procedure. A motorhome is a chassis carrying a bonded sandwich-panel house with a molded fiberglass cap. Assessment is by tap test and moisture meter, repair is by layup schedule and adhesive selection, and verification is by water test. Different tools, different skills, different failure modes.

Do you take small jobs or only large ones?

Both. A compartment door, a light housing, a contained gelcoat repair, or an awning fabric replacement are all normal work here. What we will not do is a cosmetic repair on a vehicle showing an unexplained operational symptom, because a door that suddenly binds means something structural moved and covering it up wastes your money. We will say so rather than take the smaller job and stay quiet about it.

Can you handle a vintage or discontinued unit?

Yes. Panel fabrication where the original stock no longer exists is a normal part of the work rather than an exception, and there is currently a 1959 Flxible VL-100 in the shop. On discontinued units, forming the panel is frequently faster than waiting on a back order that will never fill, and we will give you that comparison in writing.

Is structural welding done in house?

Yes. All welding and structural correction is performed at our Yorba Linda facility by certified technicians and is not subcontracted. Steel and aluminum are welded to different procedures. Keeping it in house means the measurement before, the correction, and the verification after all happen under one roof and go into one photographic record for your claim file. Subletting structural work means the shop that owns the job cannot verify the correction it is billing you for.

Do you work on commercial fleets?

Yes, in shop. Cargo and passenger vans, box trucks, flatbeds, utility trailers, and configured work vehicles including shelving, racking, and equipment mounting. We do not run fleet route service or send technicians to a yard. For fleet operators the deciding factor is usually downtime, so tell us the operational constraint at intake and we will schedule around it where we can.

Why do people drive so far to get here?

Because specialty structural capability is not evenly distributed. Laminated panel rebuild, fiberglass layup, riveted shell work, slide geometry correction, and documented insurance supplements are separate skill sets from automotive collision, and there are not many shops in Southern California doing all of them under one roof on all years and all makes. Once a vehicle is apart it cannot be moved, so owners choose the shop before teardown rather than after it.
