Campers and Trailers Repair

A trailer or camper is a box that has to survive being dragged, lifted, folded, or bolted to something that moves independently of it. That single fact drives almost every repair we write. A motorhome distributes road input through a suspension designed as a system with the body above it. A travel trailer takes the same input through two straight axles on leaf springs bolted to a ladder frame, with a laminated box sitting on top of it that was never designed to be a stressed member but ends up acting like one. Cracks start at the hangers, at the A-frame welds, and at the corners of every opening cut into the sidewall. Truck campers are their own problem entirely, because they are rigidly tied down to a pickup bed that flexes several degrees under load. Southern California terrain makes all of it worse. Washboard on the way to a Johnson Valley or Ocotillo staging area works fasteners loose, the 74 and the 38 load brakes and bearings on the descent, and 115 degree low desert storage in Palm Desert or Indio bakes the adhesives that hold laminated panels together.
