Vans and Camper Vans Repair

The short answer

Vans are unibody steel shells, so every roof vent, window, and rack mount is a hole cut in a structural panel. We repair Sprinter, Transit, ProMaster, and Express bodies, camper conversions, build-outs, high-top roofs, and the electrical systems that live behind the walls.

How we approach this category

A van is the opposite of an RV in the way it carries load. There is no separate frame and no separate house. The steel shell is the structure, and its stiffness comes from the shape of the stampings and the continuity of the welded seams. That changes the repair on every level. A dent in a Sprinter body side is not a dent in a bolt-on panel, it is a deformation in a load path, and pulling it without addressing the adjacent seam leaves stress locked into the shell. It also means that every hole cut into that shell for a fan, a window, a solar mount, or a roof rack removes stiffness that has to be replaced with a reinforced frame around the opening. Conversions add a second layer. A camper van built out by a shop or an owner carries several hundred pounds of cabinetry, batteries, water, and insulation on brackets that tie into the factory ribs, and those brackets concentrate load into sheet metal that was never rated for it. We see cracked rib welds around bed platform mounts and stress cracks radiating from poorly framed window cutouts on vans that have never been in a collision. Coastal salt out of Oceanside and Long Beach then attacks those cut edges, because a hole saw leaves bare steel that no factory coating protects. We repair the shell, reframe the openings, redo the build, and sort the twelve volt system behind it.
