The short answer
Decal and graphics replacement removes cracked or faded factory artwork, prepares the finish underneath, and installs a new printed or cut vinyl scheme, or reproduces discontinued artwork in paint. Work runs $500 to $5,500, or 3 to 25 hours at $210 per hour plus material.

What this work actually involves
Factory RV graphics in Southern California have a service life of roughly five to eight years, and less than that on the sun-facing side of a unit stored uncovered inland. The failure sequence is predictable: the laminate goes first, chalking and losing gloss, then the printed ink fades, then the vinyl loses plasticizer, shrinks, and starts cracking in a spiderweb pattern. Once it cracks it lifts at the edges, water gets under it, and it takes clearcoat with it when it finally comes off. A unit from Palmdale or Indio will be well into that sequence at year five while a garaged coach in Yorba Linda is still fine at ten.
The first question is always availability. Most factory schemes are discontinued as replacement kits within five to eight years of the model year, and coach builders that went out of business took their artwork with them. Where a kit exists we install it. Where it does not, we either reproduce the design digitally from measured photographs of the surviving artwork and print it, or we spray it. Digital reproduction is cheaper and faster. Sprayed reproduction lasts two to three times longer in this climate.
Installation on an RV is not car work. The surfaces are large, the sidewall is often not flat, and there are rivets, seams, service doors, and slide openings to negotiate. Big panels want to be wet applied for repositioning, cast vinyl handles compound curves that calendered vinyl will not, and everything has to be post-heated and sealed at the edges or it lifts within a year in the desert. We prep to bare sound paint, because vinyl applied over chalked clear releases the clear along with itself.
Systems and brands we work on: 3M, Avery Dennison, ORACAL, Arlon.
Location: All work is performed at our Yorba Linda facility. We do not offer mobile, roadside, or fleet route service.

What the job includes
- Availability research on factory replacement decal kits by model year
- Removal of failed decals with controlled heat and adhesive remover
- Adhesive residue removal and surface preparation to sound paint
- Clearcoat condition assessment before new vinyl is applied
- Factory replacement kit installation where the kit is still produced
- Digital reproduction of discontinued artwork from measured photographs
- Cut vinyl lettering, striping, and accent installation
- Cast vinyl selection for compound curves and radiused corners
- Post-heat and edge sealing at seams, rivets, and openings
- Sprayed reproduction option where longevity matters more than cost

When you need this service
- Graphics that have cracked into a spiderweb pattern and lost color
- Decal edges lifting or curling, especially at the top of a panel
- A repair or panel replacement that interrupted an existing graphics scheme
- Faded artwork on the sun-facing side against sound artwork on the shaded side
- Clearcoat pulling away with the decal where it has already started to release
- Fleet lettering that no longer matches current branding across the vehicles

How we do it, step by step
- 01
Document the existing scheme
Measured photographs of every element on the intact side before removal. On discontinued schemes this documentation is the only source for reproduction.
- 02
Availability research
We check whether the factory kit is still produced for your model year before recommending anything. Availability determines whether the path is kit, print, or paint.
- 03
Removal
Old vinyl released with controlled heat and lifted at a low angle. Aggressive pulling on brittle sun-baked vinyl takes clearcoat with it and turns this into a paint job.
- 04
Substrate preparation
Adhesive residue removed, surface washed and decontaminated, and the clearcoat underneath assessed. New vinyl over chalked clear releases the clear when it comes off.
- 05
Layout and dry fit
Panels positioned and hinged before any liner comes off, with reference marks taken from body features so both sides of the unit match each other.
- 06
Application
Wet or dry applied per material, squeegeed from the center out, and worked around rivets, seams, and radii with cast material where the curve demands it.
- 07
Post-heat and seal
All edges and recesses post-heated to the material specification and sealed. Skipping post-heat is why most desert installs lift at the corners within a year.

Questions about decal and graphics replacement
Frequently asked questions
My RV decals are discontinued. What are my options?
Three. A used kit if one surfaces, which is rare and usually already aged. Digital reproduction, where we measure and photograph the surviving artwork, redraw it, and print new vinyl. Or sprayed reproduction in paint. Printing is faster and cheaper. Spraying costs more up front and lasts two to three times longer in Southern California sun, which changes the math on a coach you plan to keep.
How much does RV decal replacement cost?
$500 to $5,500, or 3 to 25 hours at $210 per hour plus material. Replacing a set of cut vinyl lettering on a cargo van sits at the low end. Removing a fully cracked full-body scheme from a forty-foot coach, correcting the clearcoat underneath, and installing a digitally reproduced multi-panel scheme sits at the high end.
Why do RV graphics fail so fast in Southern California?
UV degrades the laminate first, then the ink, then the vinyl itself loses plasticizer and shrinks, which is what causes the cracking and edge lift. Inland and low desert units in Palmdale, Victorville, and the Coachella Valley see the highest UV load and the widest temperature swings, so they run through that sequence in about half the time a coastal or garaged unit does.
Can new decals go over my existing paint condition?
Only if the clearcoat under them is sound. Vinyl bonds to whatever is on the surface, so applying it over chalked or failing clear means the clear comes off with the vinyl the next time it is removed, and edge lift starts early because there is no stable surface to hold. We assess the clear first and will recommend correction or refinish before install where needed.
Will insurance cover graphics damaged in an accident?
Generally yes, as part of restoring the vehicle to pre-loss condition. The complication is discontinued artwork. When no replacement kit exists, we document that the part is unavailable and price digital or sprayed reproduction as the only route back to pre-loss appearance. Carriers accept that consistently when the discontinuation is evidenced rather than asserted.
