What this work actually involves
The countertop in an RV lives a harder life than one in a house. It is cantilevered over a lightweight cabinet run, it flexes every time the coach crosses an expansion joint on the 91 or the 15, and it goes through a 90 degree temperature swing between a February night in Lancaster and an August afternoon in Indio. That is why factory laminate tops split at the sink cutout and why an improperly supported stone top cracks at the narrowest point, which is almost always the strip between the sink and the front edge.
Material choice follows from that. Solid surface such as Corian is the most forgiving option for an RV because it is repairable in place, seams can be made invisible, and chips can be sanded out rather than replaced. Quartz looks superb and is very hard, but it is heavy and unforgiving of substrate flex, so it needs a continuous supported deck underneath rather than the open-frame cabinet top most coaches ship with. Laminate is light and inexpensive and is still the right answer on a weight-critical trailer.
We template after the cabinets are permanently set, never before, and never from a drawing. Coach cabinet runs are not straight, the walls are not plumb, and the floor is not flat, so a top cut to nominal dimensions will show a gap somewhere along the backsplash every time. Templating on the installed cabinets with the coach sitting level, then scribing the backsplash to the actual wall line, is what separates a top that reads as factory from one that obviously got added later.

Assessment and material selection
Existing top and its substrate evaluated together, then material options reviewed against weight, repairability, and how much cabinet support your coach actually has.

Repair versus replace call
Solid surface chips and small cracks are frequently repairable in place. A laminate top with a swollen particle board core is not, and we will say so rather than sell a cosmetic fix.

Removal and substrate inspection
Faucet and drain disconnected, old top lifted, and the cabinet top rails checked for water damage and adequacy for the new material weight.

Support deck construction
For quartz or stone we build a continuous supported deck across the cabinet run so the slab is not spanning open frame, which is what cracks tops at the sink strip.

Templating
Template made on the installed cabinets with the coach level, capturing the real wall line rather than the drawing, then fabrication ordered from that template.

Installation and scribe
Top set, seams joined and finished, backsplash scribed to the wall, and cutouts fitted with reinforcement at any narrow section.

Plumbing reconnect and check
Sink and faucet reinstalled and sealed, supply and drain reconnected, and the system pressure checked for leaks before delivery.

And you need the payload for it, since a galley run in quartz typically adds 90 to 160 pounds over laminate. We weigh it and tell you before you order the slab.
Is a chipped solid surface top repairable?
Usually yes, and that is the main advantage of solid surface in an RV. Chips, burns, and small cracks can be filled with color-matched material and sanded flush, and seams can be rejoined invisibly. Quartz and laminate do not repair this way, which is why solid surface is often the better long-term choice in a vehicle that flexes.
Why did my laminate countertop split at the sink?
The particle board substrate under the laminate absorbed water at the sink perimeter, swelled, and pushed the laminate apart. It is the most common countertop failure in an RV and it starts with a faucet base or a sink rim seal that let go years earlier. The fix is a new top plus correcting whatever was leaking, not resealing the split.
