Photography studio vehicles need light control, stable power for strobes, vibration protection for gear, and a level floor at location. Light leak seal failure, power system faults under strobe load, equipment mounting fatigue, and interior finish damage are the pattern. We repair envelopes, structure, and electrical.

What we see on mobile photography studios
A studio vehicle has one requirement no other vehicle in this category has, which is total light control. Every seam, door seal, window blank, and vent is a potential light leak, and a leak that would be invisible to anyone else is a defect here. Light leaks also track exactly with envelope condition, so a vehicle that has started leaking light has usually started leaking air and water too. When we assess one of these, seals and penetrations get evaluated for light as well as for weather, which is a stricter standard and finds problems earlier.
Power is the second issue and it is unusual. Strobe packs draw in large short bursts rather than steadily, and a system that handles continuous load fine can sag badly under a recycle. That shows as inconsistent flash output, which a photographer reads as an equipment fault. Undersized runs, oxidized connections, and an inverter that is marginal for surge all produce it. We diagnose under actual load at $285 per hour rather than testing at idle, because these systems misbehave specifically when they are working.
Gear protection is the third. Cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment ride in a body that flexes and vibrates over freeway distance to a location in the desert, the mountains, or a production lot in the basin. Storage that is not properly mounted and isolated transmits every road input into expensive equipment, and mounting that works loose damages both the gear and the panel behind it. We build and reinforce storage, repair envelopes and seals, and handle electrical and shore power at $260 per hour. Engine, drivetrain, and DOT inspection work is not performed here.

What actually fails, and why
Light leak development at seals and seams
Door and window seals that take a compression set, and seams that have opened slightly from body flex, admit light long before they admit obvious amounts of water. Light leaks are an early warning that the envelope has begun to fail.
Power system sag under strobe surge
Strobe packs draw in large short bursts. Undersized runs, oxidized connections, and a marginal inverter produce voltage sag during recycle, which presents as inconsistent flash output and gets blamed on the lighting equipment.
Equipment storage mounting fatigue
Cases and storage racks carrying heavy gear on a flexing body over long location drives. Mounting works through the substrate, and once storage has play it transmits road shock into equipment and damages the panel it is fastened to.
Blanked window and vent seal failure
Blanked openings are aftermarket work rather than factory, and their sealing depends on a bond that thermal cycling attacks. They fail as light leaks first and as water paths second, in a vehicle full of electronics.
Interior surface wear and reflectivity change
Non-reflective interior finishes scuff and wear from equipment handling, and a worn patch that has become slightly reflective is a functional problem in a studio space rather than a cosmetic one.
Floor deflection under equipment and leveling loads
Heavy cases plus setup on uneven location surfaces load the floor unevenly. The pan deflects, storage no longer sits square, and a working floor that is not stable makes everything mounted to it worse over time.

What does studio vehicle repair cost?
Envelope and light leak remediation across doors, windows, and blanks runs $1,200 to $4,500. Electrical diagnosis and rewiring for strobe load is $1,200 to $4,000. Storage mounting reinforcement is $700 to $2,800. Body labor is $210 per hour, electrical $260 per hour, diagnostics $285 per hour, plus materials. A paid estimate is required before scheduling.
My strobes recycle inconsistently. Is that the packs?
Often it is not. Strobe draw surges rather than holding steady, and a system that tests fine under continuous load can sag badly during recycle if runs are undersized or a connection has oxidized. We measure under actual surge load rather than at idle, because that is the only condition where the fault shows itself.
How do you find light leaks?
By blacking out the shop bay and getting inside the vehicle with the doors closed, which is the only method that actually works. Every leak gets marked from inside, then addressed from outside. It is slow and it is the only way to be sure, and it usually finds envelope problems that were going to become water problems within a year anyway.
How long is the vehicle down?
Envelope and seal work is three to six working days. Electrical rework is three to seven days depending on the finding. A full build-out or storage rebuild runs two to four weeks. Production schedules are unforgiving, so tell us your booked dates at intake and we will schedule around them.
Can you build a studio vehicle from a cargo van?
Yes. Insulation, sound deadening, light-tight paneling and window blanks, electrical and inverter systems, shore power, storage and racking, air conditioning, and lighting are all in-house. Camera and lighting equipment supply, engine and drivetrain work, and DOT inspection are outside our scope. We build the vehicle side at Yorba Linda. Light-tight sealing is verified from inside the vehicle before delivery.
