Most Los Alamitos work that reaches this shop arrives with a problem the owner first noticed months after it started. Dense traffic, tight surface streets, and constant stop and go. A star chip in a large one piece coach windshield sits in a panel that flexes with the body over every driveway and expansion joint. It runs when a cold defroster hits it on a winter morning, and a one piece unit is a very different job from a chip fill.

Clear coat etching and vinyl haze from basin air. Basin air leaves an acidic film that sits on horizontal panels until somebody washes it off. On clear coat it etches shallow rings that stop polishing out once they reach base color. On printed film and wrap, plasticizer migrates out under the same load, the graphic hazes, and edges start curling at every seam and door cut.

Getting here from Los Alamitos means the 605, 22, and 405, then east on the 91 to Weir Canyon. Two or three transitions depending on which way you come at it.

Two things worth knowing about this approach. First, the 605 is usually the cleanest north south option through the eastern basin. Second, the 22 is short and usually the fastest cross-connector between the 405 and the 5. Of the corridors serving Los Alamitos, the 405 is the single most congested corridor in the region and worth routing around entirely, which is the one to plan around.

From Los Alamitos it is a quick trip on the 605, the 22, and the 405, close enough that a drop-off does not need to be planned around.

At this range a second visit is not a burden, which matters on jobs where we want to look at something again once a seal has had a week to settle.

Irvine, Westminster, and Costa Mesa sit at a comparable distance, and Westminster and Cypress share the same conditions, so those units tend to arrive with the same problems Los Alamitos units do.

Storage is usually off site and shared, so the vehicle sits in a lot with lanes narrower than the units parked in them and gets contacted by people who do not leave notes. Damage often appears between visits with no known event, which is why a dated walk around photo set at every drop off earns its ten minutes. That is worth knowing before you schedule, because it changes what we look for the moment the unit arrives.

Mid May to late June. Get the acidic film off before summer bakes it in. Wash horizontal surfaces first, then seal or coat them, and inspect every wrap and decal edge at door cuts and body seams. An edge caught while it is still flat gets rolled back down. An edge left curling through August lifts the panel and takes the graphic with it.

Mid January to early March. The first wet weeks reveal what the previous year of parking lot contact actually did. Water finds cracked cap laminate, sheared vent flanges, and ladder mounts that were pulled loose months earlier. Walk the interior with a light after the first two storms and study ceiling corners and the head of the rear cap before any of it reaches the subfloor.
