Mobile Business Owners

Mobile Salons, Spas and Beauty Services

The short answer

Salon appointments book weeks out, so a repair that slips takes a month of confirmed clients with it. On these builds the pressure points are chair anchoring into the floor structure, the water and gray tank, mirror and lighting quality, and flooring and cabinetry that live with hair, color and solvent every day.

01

What we see from this customer

A mobile salon does not lose a day, it loses a book. Clients scheduled six weeks out get moved once and a good number of them do not come back, which makes the cost of a two week repair considerably higher than two weeks of chair time. So we want the calendar at intake and we want to know your hard dates. If a wedding party or an event booking is on the list we plan the sequence around it, and if we cannot make it we say so before you are the one calling clients.

The two things that go wrong structurally are the chair and the tanks. A styling chair takes a rotating load with a person in it, and if the base was lagged into cabinetry or into a floor panel rather than into structure, the fasteners elongate their holes and the chair begins to rock. That rocking is what cracks the floor covering and lets water and color get underneath. Flooring and cabinet finishes on these builds also take a chemical load nothing in an RV was designed for. Bleach, developer and color will lift a laminate edge and dull a cabinet finish inside a season.

Mirrors and lighting are not cosmetics on a salon vehicle, they are the product. A mirror set out of plane after a body repair, or a light bar replaced with a different color temperature, changes what a client sees and what you can actually deliver in a color service. We measure and reset mirror mounting rather than reusing whatever hole is there, and we match lamp color temperature across the build. On the claim side, most of these interiors were installed by an upfitter who has since closed, so the itemization that supports the equipment portion of the loss is documentation we generate during teardown. All work is performed at our Yorba Linda facility.

What you are worried about, and the answer

Concern 01

Clients are booked out weeks and rescheduling costs more than the downtime

Give us the book at intake, including the dates you cannot move. We plan the disassembly and refinish sequence around them, and you hear at teardown, not at week three, whether the scope has outgrown the window you gave us.

Concern 02

The styling chair rocks and the floor around it has started to crack

The chair base almost certainly is not anchored into structure. We open the floor, look at what the rocking has already done to the substrate underneath, and rebuild the mount into framing with a backing plate so the load spreads instead of concentrating on four lag screws.

Concern 03

Color and developer have gotten into the flooring seams and cabinet edges

Chemical exposure travels through seams. Flooring goes back with seams sealed and coved at the wall rather than butted into a baseboard, and cabinet edges are rebuilt with a finish that tolerates the solvent load. A repair that puts the same detail back gives you the same failure on the same timeline.

Concern 04

The gray tank or its plumbing is leaking and I cannot find where

Water in a vehicle is almost never where it shows. We meter the floor and walls, trace the path to the actual fitting, seam or tank connection, and repair the source as part of the job. Gray water in particular soaks into the substrate and stays wet long after the surface has dried.

Concern 05

The mirrors and lighting have to be right or I cannot do color work

Mirror mounting is measured and set to plane rather than reusing existing holes, and lighting is matched on color temperature across the whole build. A mismatched lamp at a color station is a repair that technically passed and practically failed.

Concern 06

The wrap is the brand and a replaced panel will not match it

Wrap can be reproduced, and on a partial replacement we will usually recommend redoing the full side. Inland Southern California sun fades vinyl unevenly, so a new section next to four year old film reads as a repair from across the parking lot even when the print file is identical.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much notice do you need to schedule around my client book?

Call as soon as you have the damage, even before you decide to repair. Parts sourcing and carrier approval are the two things that move a schedule, and both start earlier than the work does. Once we have opened it up we can give you a real date. Anything anyone tells you before teardown on a build-out vehicle is an estimate with hidden damage risk attached.

My styling chair has started to rock. Is that the chair or the floor?

Almost always the floor. A chair base lagged into a floor panel or into cabinetry rather than into framing will elongate its holes under rotating load, and once there is play the movement accelerates. We open it up, inspect the substrate for water that got in through the cracked covering, and rebuild the mount with a proper backing plate into structure.

Can you install flooring that survives color and bleach?

Yes, and the detail matters more than the material. Seams sealed and coved up the wall keep developer and color out of the substrate. Butted seams at a baseboard will wick, and once the decking is wet the flooring is the least of your problems. We will show you what comes out of your floor when we open it, which usually settles the specification conversation quickly.

Will the wrap match if you only replace one panel?

Not for long, and often not at all. Vinyl in Riverside, Corona and Chino sun loses saturation on the sun side first, so fresh print next to weathered film shows a color break even when the file is identical. We price a panel section against a full side and let you see the difference. On some schemes reproducing in paint is the better long-term answer.

Does insurance cover the salon build or just the van?

The build is claimable when it is documented as part of the loss. That means itemized lines with teardown photographs for the chair, the plumbing, the tanks, the cabinetry and the lighting, not a single line reading salon equipment. Most of these interiors were installed by an upfitter who has closed, so the file we create during disassembly is frequently the only documentation in existence.
