Mobile Business Owners
Mobile Pet Grooming Businesses
The short answer
One van is the whole company in a mobile grooming business, so a week in the shop is a week of cancelled appointments with no backup vehicle. The interior takes standing water every day, the tub and tanks add weight the chassis never planned for, and most of that equipment went in without a builder still around to ask.
01
What we see from this customer
The damage we see on grooming vans is not freeway damage. It is a mirror clipped on a narrow driveway in an older Anaheim or Fullerton neighborhood, a roof corner dragged under a low pepper tree branch, a rear quarter scraped on a gatepost while backing out of a client house. Small, repeated, and easy to defer until three of them sit on the same panel. The route is what causes it: forty stops a week in residential driveways that were laid out for a sedan, not a high roof van with several hundred pounds of water in it.
Inside, the failure is water and time. A grooming van floor takes standing water daily, and unless the flooring is coved and sealed at every edge it wicks under at the tub base and the door threshold and rots the substrate from below. We open a lot of these and find soft plywood under a floor that looked perfect. Dryer amperage is the other one. High velocity dryers and a water heater pulled through undersized wire and a marginal ground make heat at the connection rather than at the appliance, and the owner ends up replacing a dryer that was never the problem.
Because there is no second van, the schedule is the whole conversation. We will tell you at teardown whether this is a four day repair or a three week repair, and if the floor is coming up it is three weeks. On the claim side, a grooming build is exactly the kind of upfit a carrier undervalues. The tub, the tanks, the plumbing, the dryers and the electrical are the reason the van is worth what it is worth, and if the installer is out of business the only documentation that exists is what we produce during disassembly. All work is performed at our Yorba Linda facility.

What you are worried about, and the answer
Concern 01
There is no second van, so every day down is every appointment cancelled
We give you a real date after teardown and we hold the vehicle in one continuous run rather than parking it between operations. If the scope is going to exceed a week, you hear it at teardown so you can start rescheduling clients instead of cancelling them the morning of.
Concern 02
The floor is soft around the tub and I do not know how far it has gone
Farther than you think, almost always. Water under a tub travels along the substrate to the low side of the van, so we meter the whole floor before pricing anything. Replacing the visible patch and leaving wet decking under the cabinet run is how this job gets done twice.
Concern 03
Branches and gateposts keep taking the same corner and roof edge
Repeated low speed contact on the same corner stretches and work-hardens the panel, so the third repair is not the same as the first. We will tell you when a panel is better replaced than pushed, and we can add a rub rail or corner guard while it is apart if your route keeps producing the same hit.
Concern 04
The dryers trip the breaker and the wiring gets hot
That is a connection problem far more often than an appliance problem. Undersized wire, a corroded ground or a loose crimp makes heat at the joint while the dryer takes the blame. We test under actual load, not at rest, because a bad connection reads perfectly fine on a meter with nothing running.
Concern 05
The company that built the interior is gone and nobody has the plumbing layout
We photograph and dimension the plumbing, tank mounting and wiring before anything comes apart, and that record goes back to you with the van. It is the drawing set the original installer never gave you, and it makes the next repair on this vehicle considerably cheaper.
Concern 06
My carrier is valuing this like an empty cargo van
Then the estimate has to make the build visible. We itemize the tub, tanks, pump, heater, dryers and electrical as separate lines with teardown photographs. Adjusters pay for what is documented. A single line reading grooming equipment gets cut every time.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How long will my grooming van be down?
A clipped mirror, a scuffed quarter and a refinish is three to five working days. A soft floor with the tub out, subfloor replaced and plumbing reconnected is two to four weeks depending on how far the water traveled. We meter and open the floor first, then give you the date. Booking clients against an estimate written before teardown is how grooming owners end up cancelling twice.
My floor is soft near the tub. Is that a claim?
It depends on cause, and that is the entire question. Sudden intrusion from a covered event such as an impact or a burst supply line is generally claimable. A tub drain that has been weeping for two years is maintenance and generally is not. We meter, trace the path and photograph the source, because that finding is what the coverage decision gets made on.
Can you fix the water tank mounting so it stops moving?
Yes, and a tank that moves is worth taking seriously. A full hundred gallon tank is more than eight hundred pounds working against mounts that were frequently sized by eye. We fabricate and weld proper mounting into the frame or floor structure rather than re-tightening what is there, and we inspect what the movement already did to the floor beneath it.
Why do my dryers keep tripping the breaker?
Usually because the circuit was built for the van and not for the dryers. High velocity dryers and a water heater on the same leg through undersized wire will heat the connection long before the appliance complains. We load test the system, check grounds and crimps, and correct the wiring rather than replacing equipment that was never at fault.
Can you repaint or rewrap the van at the same time?
Yes, and if we are already refinishing a panel it is the right time. Vinyl on a van that works inland Southern California typically starts lifting at the edges and fading on the passenger side first, so a patched section rarely matches. We price a single panel against a full side so you can see the difference before you decide which way to go.
