The short answer
Spray-in bedliner chemically bonds a polyurea or polyurethane protective coating to truck beds, toy hauler garage floors, trailer decks, van floors, generator bays, and exterior rock guards. Work runs $500 to $1,800, or 3 to 7 hours at $210 per hour plus material.

What this work actually involves
A spray-in liner is a chemical bond to prepared substrate, not a mat sitting on top of it. That distinction is the whole job. Drop-in plastic liners trap grit and moisture underneath and become the reason a bed rusts through, which we see constantly on work trucks that spend time near the coast. A sprayed polyurea bonds to properly abraded and cleaned metal, seals the seams and drain holes, and there is nowhere for water to sit. It also deadens sound noticeably, which matters more than people expect in a toy hauler garage or a cargo van floor.
Toy hauler garages are the biggest RV application. A garage floor takes fuel spill, tie-down abrasion, hot tires, and the point loading of a dirt bike stand or a side-by-side, and the factory finish is usually a thin coating over plywood or a light gauge deck. A sprayed liner with UV-stable topcoat handles all of it and gives the floor real traction, which is worth something on a ramp door in Big Bear when it is wet. We also spray trailer decks, van floors, generator bays, step wells, and rock guards.
UV matters here more than in most markets. Standard aromatic polyurea chalks and fades under Southern California sun, so any surface with sky exposure, an open bed, a trailer deck, a rock guard, gets an aliphatic UV-stable topcoat. Black on an open bed in Palm Springs will also reach painful surface temperatures at 115F ambient, which is a real consideration for anyone loading gear by hand. We discuss color and texture with that in mind.

How we do it, step by step
- 01
Remove and inspect
Any existing drop-in or failed sprayed liner comes out and the substrate underneath is inspected. Rust found under a drop-in is common and is treated before anything is sprayed.

Rust and substrate correction
Corrosion removed to sound metal and treated, holes and seams repaired. Spraying a liner over active rust just hides the rust while it keeps working.

Mechanical abrasion and cleaning
Entire surface abraded to a uniform profile, then degreased and solvent wiped. Adhesion is a mechanical question first and a chemistry question second.

Masking and layout
Rails, edges, and termination lines masked to a deliberate, straight boundary. A liner edge is highly visible and a wandering line reads as sloppy work forever.

Application
Material sprayed to the specified mil thickness in controlled passes, with texture built by technique rather than by dumping material into low spots.

UV topcoat where exposed
Aliphatic UV-stable topcoat over any surface that sees sky. Standard aromatic material without it chalks and fades quickly under Southern California sun.

Cure and handover
Full cure in shop before the vehicle is released, with written guidance on the initial cure period before heavy loading or chemical exposure.

Spray-in, in almost every case, and especially anywhere near the coast. A drop-in plastic liner traps grit and moisture between itself and the bed, and that trapped moisture is the single most common cause of a rusted-through bed floor on a work truck. A sprayed liner bonds to the substrate and seals the seams, so there is nowhere for water to sit.
Will a bedliner fade in the sun?
Standard aromatic polyurea will chalk and fade under this UV load, yes. That is why any surface with sky exposure gets an aliphatic UV-stable topcoat here. It is an extra step that a lot of shops skip on price, and it is the difference between a liner that still looks black at year five and one that has gone gray by the second summer.
