The joint where the roof sheet turns down over the sidewall is the longest continuous seam on the vehicle and sees the most differential movement of any of them. Trim screws loosen, sealant under the trim hardens and cracks, and water enters at the top of the wall, where it runs the full length of the cavity before it stains anything visible.

Schwintek rack timing drift and wall binding. A through wall rack and pinion system depends on both sides running in step. Heat grows the room and the wall opening at different rates, the room binds slightly on one side, and one motor falls behind. Sometimes the controller flags that as a fault and sometimes it does not, and the room comes in cocked. Cycling it again rounds the rack teeth off.

Late November to early January. Get on the roof before the rain, not after it. Test every sealant bead at the edge with a plastic scraper rather than judging it by eye, because a bead can look continuous and be fully released underneath. Pull loose trim screws, rebed them, and reseal the roof to wall transition along its entire length while the material is still warm enough to bond.

Late April to early June. Prepare for heat before it arrives. Read the date code on every tire and replace anything over five or six years no matter how the tread looks. Check and top flooded batteries, then confirm the converter is temperature compensating. Cover or shade the unit if a covered space is not available, and vent the battery compartment.
